Not only was the 2011 climbing season somewhat late this year but also the resumption
of the anchor and protection bolt replacement program. However, TABVAR is pleased
to report that there has been a flurry of activity over the last two months.
With a generous donation again this year from Rhonda and Walson Tai and the Calgary
Climbing Centre specifically for the project, TABVAR made a bulk purchase of hardware
to be distributed to the volunteers doing the replacement.
There has been continued progress in Cougar Creek and Carrot Creek with Acephale
getting a facelift as well. Thanks to the tireless efforts on the part of Marc-Andre
Cousineau, Jon Jones and Derek Galloway. Please see the attached list for what has
been completed to date this year. Previous updates may be viewed here.
The climbing community has been very helpful in reporting routes or crags that require
attention, thank you for that and keep it coming.
In September a “blitz day” is being organized to refurbish as many routes at one location
as possible in one day. If you have experience with putting in bolts or just what to help
out a few volunteers are required. So if you are available to help out, drop us an email at
tabvarrefit@gmail.com . Once we have the crag location and a date set, you will be
contacted and an announcement will be made to the general climbing community.
We are grateful for the generous donations we have received so far, but more dollars will
be required for this ongoing project. If you wish to help out by parting with a few dollars,
please send a cheque (payable to TABVAR) to the address below:
